Mr. DeStefano has extensive experience in the field of economic development in the Regional Municipality of Sudbury and beyond. He has served in a leadership role in high profile community initiatives including The Next Ten Years Economic Diversification Conference.

He has also been involved in important projects at the provincial level as a member of the Ministry of Culture and Communications Advisory Committee on Telecommunications, a Member of the Premier’s Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship and was a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of Rogers Broadcasting Inc. Cable 4 OMNI 1 & OMNI 2.

He has a long history of involvement in the community in a number of capacities, including Sudbury Regional Councillor/ for 7 years Alderman, Chair of the Planning Committee ,Commissioner on the Canadian Radio- Television and Telecommunications Commission for 5 years, Chair of Sudbury’s Community Leisure Plan, Chair of the Ontario Summer Games, educator, Executive Director of the Northern Ontario Teleconference Network, Partner in Wild Paths Inc.- Eco Tourism Company , also on the Board of Directors -“Friends of Killarney, Park” and founder of Factel Corporation an experimental IT Communications company…

Mr. DeStefano completed a comprehensive economic community based strategy for the Regional Municipality of Sudbury referred to as The New Way initiative in which he designed and developed a process describing viable economic scenarios for the Region of Sudbury to the year 2010.

During the years 2000-2003 , Dick acted as strategic planning consultant for a number of private corporations and cities in Canada utilizing a unique asset model that assisted clients from small corporations to mid sized communities to build and diversify their cultures.

Mr. DeStefano is also a member of the first Editorial Board of the Global Mining Supply & Service Magazine, Sudbury Mining Solutions Journal and writes commentaries for a number of publications.

Mr. DeStefano was appointed as facilitator of the Sudbury Soils Study’s Technical Committee which is a comprehensive scientific study evaluating the potential for human health and ecological effects of metals found in Sudbury area soils.

Dick continually participates in community efforts and has worked on the United Way Campaign as a Cabinet Member.

Dick has been actively involved in the Centre of Commercialization of Mining Technologies and Services, The Greater Sudbury Community Adjustment Committee (Economic Gardening Strategy), the Northeastern Ontario Resource Alliance, and recently has agreed to be a member of the Learning City Initiative of Greater Sudbury.

Dick also acted as the Voluntary Chairman of the 2011 Mining & Technology Week in Greater Sudbury and was actively involved in a number of educational activities that created awareness of the importance of mining and technological advances in the Sudbury mining cluster.
