President - WipWare Inc., Topex Inc. & The Bonfield Mining Group Inc.
Tom C. Palangio is an explosive application specialist and former explosives consultant (Topex Inc.). He is also president and owner of WipWare Incorporated Photoanalysis Systems.
Tom’s career spans more than 40 years in the explosives industry starting with DuPont Canada Explosives Products Division in 1974, joining Explosives Technologies International in 1988, and forming Topex and WipWare in 1995. He has worked with various organizations and research groups throughout the world and has extensive experience in explosives manufacturing, application and performance testing.
Tom pioneered the use of new technology as a means of improving blasting efficiency. He has published over 86 papers and presented lectures and workshops at various conferences and universities covering such diverse topics as high-speed photography, mechanical loading techniques, seismic vibration analysis, wall control methods and fragmentation assessment.
He chaired the Blue Sky mining cluster in North Bay, served on the Ontario Mining Industry Cluster Council and is a past chair of the Northern Gateway branch of the CIM. He is currently president and a director for SAMSSA and chair of the NORCAT board of directors in Sudbury. He is a past chair of the Canadore College board of governors and presently serves on the Nipissing University board of governors and is chair of the audit and finance committee. Tom lives in northern Ontario and has won various awards and recognition for innovation and business including: the Northern Ontario Business, Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2003; export development awards in 2001 and 2002; the Ontario leadership award in the Provincial Global Traders Award category in 2003; the OACETT Outstanding Technical Achievement Award in 2009; was recognized by PROFIT 500 as being in the top third of growth companies in Canada in 2013; and received the Northern Ontario Business Award for Innovation in 2015.
General Manager - Marcotte Mining Machinery Services Inc.
In her role as General Manager, Alicia oversees the operation of Marcotte Mining including engineering, production, sales and support while providing leadership and vision.
Alicia started working in the mining and supply service sector in 2000 as part of the then family owned business, Marcotte Mining. There she held a number of positions from administrative to sales and marketing to management while studying business at Cambrian College.
Alicia is also creator of Covergalls Inc., the Sudbury-designed and Canadian-manufactured coverall tailored specifically for women. Manager of Business Development & Co-operations - Rector Machines
Dave works in Sault Ste. Marie. Dave is a graduate from the Marketing/Business Administration at George Brown College in Toronto. Upon his return to Sault Ste Marie he attended Sault College and studied Aviation Machining and Welding. Dave has worked through the ranks at his 78 year old family business. For the past 5 years, Dave has been Manager of Business Development and Co-Operations at Rector Machine Works. In the past few years, Rector Machine Works has expanded their customer base and increased sales and staff by 25%. Further expansion is in progress and Dave is excited about the challenge and potential growth.
Owner & Executive Vice-President - Manitoulin Group of Companies
Jeff is the owner and Executive Vice-President of the Manitoulin Group of Companies. He is responsible for quality and environmental management systems for the group of companies as well as senior management client contact for many larger customers across Canada. He is also responsible for continuous improvement within Manitoulin Transport across 70 terminals in Canada as well as customs brokerage, global air and ocean freight forwarding, and other related transportation companies within the Group,. He attended the University of Western Ontario with a B.A., Economics and has worked in all aspects of the family business for over 30 years. He is very community minded, serving as Board Chair or Director on several Not-for-profit Boards. He is married with two daughters and lives in Sudbury.
President - Rock-Tech
Ricky is the President & CEO of Rock-Tech since 1999 after years of working for years with his father to start and operate RDH. He worked as a heavy duty technician and finally General Manager. Ricky studied Mechanical Engineering at Mohawk College and has 30 plus years involved primarily with underground mining equipment. He has travelled across Canada and countries such as United States, Finland, Australia, Chile, Peru and Mexico to develop international markets. Today his primary role and passion with Rock-Tech is marketing and business &product development. Rock-Tech won the Bell Business Excellence Innovation Award in 2014. Rick recently was the lead in building Rock-Tech’s new modern manufacturing plant.
